United Against Hate: Identifying and Reporting Acts of Hate

United Against Hate (“UAH”) is a nationwide Department of Justice initiative to combat unlawful acts of hate. The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Wyoming (“USAO”) is partnering with community stakeholders and law enforcement in Wyoming to increase community understanding of hate crimes and encourage the reporting of hate crimes, hate incidents, and discrimination.

Goals of the United Against Hate Community Outreach Program:

  • Increase community understanding and reporting of hate crimes, hate incidents, and discrimination;
  • Build trust between the USAO and the communities we serve; and
  • Create and strengthen alliances to combat hate between the USAO, federal, state, and local law enforcement, and community organizations.

Program Details:

Program topics include: (1) defining hate crimes; (2) the importance of reporting unlawful acts of hate; and (3) distinguishing unlawful conduct from protected First Amendment activity, including the difference between protected speech and unlawful threats.

Upcoming UAH events in Wyoming:

  • Laramie – October 12, 2023 – Shepard Symposium on Social Justice – University of Wyoming Student Union, 2nd Floor – time to be determined
