United States Attorney Jim Lewis is a graduate of Yale University and the University of Chicago Law School, with a further law degree from Duke University Law School.
He began his career as a civil rights lawyer in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1966, and worked as a civil rights and legal service attorney in Mississippi through 1973. From 1974 through 1977, Jim taught seminars at Duke and was an Assistant Professor at North Carolina Central University Law School. In 1977, Jim joined the Civil Division of the United States Department of Justice, and in 1983, Jim came to the United States Attorney’s Office in the Central District of Illinois.
After many years in the Office, Jim became the United States Attorney on June 24, 2010.
