MISSISSIPPI MAN SENTENCED IN DRUG CONSPIRACY
ANDREW LEE THOMAS, age 26, a resident of Jackson, Mississippi, was sentenced today by U. S. District Judge Helen Berrigan for violations of the Federal Controlled Substances Act involving the trafficking of cocaine, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
THOMAS pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine on August 3, 2011 before Judge Berrigan. THOMAS and co-defendant Michael FULTZ were transporting over 1950 grams of cocaine in a rental vehicle on I-10 in Hammond, Louisiana when they were stopped for a traffic violation by Louisiana State Troopers. The defendants had hidden the cocaine inside the frame of the car to prevent detection from law enforcement.
THOMAS was sentenced today to twenty (20) months in Federal prison and three (3) years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100.00 special assessment.
FULTZ was previously sentenced to sixty-four (64) months, four (4) years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100.00 special assessment. In addition, FULTZ is currently on Federal supervised release in Mississippi and is pending revocation in U. S. District Court in Mississippi.
The case was investigated by Louisiana State Police and Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney W. Scott Laragy.
