NEW ORLEANS MAN INDICTED FOR FEDERAL CHARGES RELATING TO
MURDER AND CARJACKING
WALTER CONLEY, age 23, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was charged today in a three count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury with murder, carjacking, and discharging a firearm during a carjacking.
According to the indictment, CONLEY is charged with the murder of Paul May on September 14, 2008. He is also charged with committing a carjacking in Jefferson Parish where he shot the victim and forcefully took the victim’s car.
CONLEY faces a possible death sentence for the murder; a maximum term of twenty-five (25) years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000.00 and five (5) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment for the carjacking; and a maximum of life imprisonment as to the discharge of a firearm in furtherance of the carjacking.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is being investigated by the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and prosecuted by Assistant United States Maurice E. Landrieu, Jr..
