FEDERAL GRAND JURY INDICTS MAN FOR ATTEMPTING TO ROB A BANK
CALVIN JOHNSON, age 49 and a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was charged today in a one-count superseding indictment by a Federal grand jury with attempting to commit bank robbery, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, JOHNSON attempted to rob the Capital One Bank located at 4121 Canal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana on October 18, 2011. The deposits of the Capital One Bank are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), an agency of the Federal government.
If convicted, JOHNSON faces a maximum term of imprisonment of twenty (20) years, a fine of $250,000.00, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorneys Edward J. Rivera and Julia K. Evans.
