ILLEGAL ALIEN SENTENCED FOR ILLEGAL RE-ENTRY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 18, 2012

MIGUEL ANGEL MEJIA-GABRIEL, age 36, a citizen of Mexico, was sentenced today in federal court by U. S. District Judge Martin L.C. Feldman to forty-one (41) months imprisonment, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Feldman ordered that MEJIA be placed on three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.

According to court documents, on January 11, 2012, MEJIA, an illegal alien, pled guilty to a one count indictment admitting he was previously removed from the United States and thereafter illegally re-entered the United States without the Attorney General or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security having expressly consented to his re-application for admission into the United States.

The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Robert Weir.
