ILLEGAL ALIEN SENTENCED FOR POSSESSION
OF A FIREARM BY A PROHIBITED PERSON

JOSE ANGEL ORDONEZ-RUIZ, age 40, a citizen of Honduras, was sentenced today in federal court by U. S. District Judge Ivan L. R. Lemelle to ten (10) months imprisonment, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Lemelle ordered that ORDONEZ be placed on two (2) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.

According to court documents, on or about June 25, 2011, ORDONEZ, an alien illegally and unlawfully in the United States, did knowingly possess a firearm, specifically, a Hi-Point Model C 9mm pistol.

The case was investigated by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorneys Joe La Rocca and Robert Weir.
