FIFTH CIRCUIT AFFIRMS CONVICTION OF FORMER GRETNA CITY COUNCILMAN JONATHAN BOLAR
The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals today affirmed the conviction and sentence of former Gretna City Councilman JONATHAN BOLAR. announced
U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
BOLAR was convicted on April 9, 2010, after five days of testimony and evidence of four counts of extortion, two counts of wire fraud, four counts of failure to file a tax return, and three counts of structuring financial transactions to evade reporting requirements. On August 23, 2010, United States District Court Judge Lance Africk sentenced BOLAR to 132 months in federal prison.
In affirming the conviction and the sentence, the Fifth Circuit found that BOLAR’s case was properly tried, the District Court’s rulings were sound, and that the sentence given by the District Court was justified.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Matthew Coman, Richard Pickens, and Sarah Lieberman. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
