FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 19, 2012

CALVIN JOHNSON, age 50, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced to over four years (52 months) of incarceration by United States District Court Judge Jane Triche-Milazzo for entering a bank with the intent to rob it, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, JOHNSON intended to rob the Capital One Bank located at 4121 Canal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana on October 18, 2011. JOHNSON entered the bank with a demand note and attempted to present it to a teller. The teller refused to accept the note and JOHNSON fled without receiving any federally insured funds. He was later apprehended by the New Orleans Police Department while walking down Carrollton Avenue.

In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Triche-Milazzo imposed three (3) years of supervisory release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release. JOHNSON was also ordered to pay a mandatory $100 special assessment.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorneys Edward J. Rivera and Julia K. Evans.
