DESHON SIGNAL SENTENCED FOR POSSESSION OF DRUGS AND GUNS
DESHON SIGNAL, age 34, a resident of Laplace, Louisiana, was sentenced today by U. S. District Carl Barbier to ten (10) years imprisonment for distribution of crack cocaine, felon-in-possession of a firearm, and possession of firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, announced United States Attorney, Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Barbier imposed five (5) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.
According to court documents, SIGNAL was arrested on January 11, 2010, after agents
made multiple under cover purchases of crack cocaine from him. Following his arrest, the agents obtained a search warrant for an apartment that SIGNAL maintained in Metairie. During the search, the agents recovered a .45 caliber revolver, a semiautomatic machine pistol, and crack cocaine. Having been previously convicted of a felony in 1996, SIGNAL was legally precluded from possessing or owning any firearms.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Spiro Latsis.
