JOHN C. WRIGHT SENTENCED FOR FAILURE TO REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER
JOHN C. WRIGHT, JR., age 30, of Harvey, Louisiana, was sentenced today for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender after pleading guilty in April, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
WRIGHT was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo to 27 months incarceration, three (3) years supervised release and ordered not to have unsupervised contact with any minor under age 18.
WRIGHT was required to complete a Sex Offender Registration Form any time he changed his address after pleading guilty in 2007 to Unlawful Sexual Conduct with a Minor, in violation of Ohio Revised Code Section 2907.04(a), a felony of the fourth degree; and Illegal Use of Minor in Nudity-Oriented Material or Performance, in violation of Ohio Revised Code Section 2907.323(A)(3), a felony of the fifth degree, in the Common Pleas Court, Ashland County, Ohio, under Case No. 07-CRI-021. WRIGHT moved from Ohio to Louisiana in 2011 and failed to notify law enforcement authorities of his move to Louisiana.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
