GREGORY RICHARDSON AND KENNIKQUA PHILLIPS SENTENCED FOR CONSPIRACY TO PASS COUNTERFEIT MONEY
GREGORY RICHARDSON, age 34, and KENNIKQUA PHILLIPS, age 27, both of New Orleans, Louisiana, were sentenced by U. S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo, for conspiracy to pass and utter counterfeit money, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. RICHARDSON was sentenced to three (3) years probation. PHILLIPS was sentenced to 1 year probation. Judge Milazzo also ordered both defendants jointly responsible to pay restitution in the amount of $900 to Wal-Mart.
According to court documents, RICHARDSON and PHILLIPS conspired to pass counterfeit U. S. currency at the Wal-Mart store located at 701 Tchoupitoulas Street, New Orleans, Louisiana. RICHARDSON recruited PHILLIPS, a Wal-Mart employee, who agreed to accept counterfeit $50 and $100 Federal Reserve Notes at her cash register in exchange for a VISA loadable debit card.
On or about December 29, 2008, RICHARDSON purchased merchandise and several loadable debit cards with the counterfeit currency through PHILLIPS’ cashier lane at the Tchoupitoulas Wal-Mart. The total amount of the counterfeit currency that was passed was $900.
The case was investigated by Special Agents of the U. S. Secret Service and Detectives from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Loan “Mimi” Nguyen.
