DAVID C. HOLLINGSWORTH, 48, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced today for crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

HOLLINGSWORTH pled guilty in August to an Indictment for Receipt of Materials Involving the Sexual Exploitation of Minors. United States District Judge H. Ginger Berrigan sentenced HOLLINGSWORTH to five (5) years incarceration followed by a term of five (5) years supervised release. In addition, HOLLINGSWORTH will be required to register as a sex offender.

On March 15, 2012, federal agents with the U. S. Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) executed a search warrant at HOLLINGSWORTH’s residence and found that he had downloaded approximately1,024 images and 32 videos of child pornography through the use of peer-to-peer file sharing software.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. This case was investigated by special agents from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security, HSI and the Louisiana State Police.
