RUBEN JOSEPH BRYANT SENTENCED FOR MAKING, UTTERING AND POSSESSING COUNTERFEIT CHECKS
RUBEN JOSEPH BRYANT, age 47, of Hahnville, Louisiana, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey to 5 years (60 months) imprisonment for making, uttering, and possessing counterfeit checks, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Zainey imposed three (3) years of supervised release, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.
According to court documents, BRYANT was involved in the production, cashing, and passing of counterfeit checks using bank account numbers of real and fictitious entities. He and others used these counterfeit checks to pay for merchandise and to cash at retail stores.
The case was investigated by Special Agents of the U.S. Secret Service, the Louisiana State Police, the Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Office, the Amite Police Department, and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Loan “Mimi” Nguyen.
