LEONARD JONES, JR. SENTENCED FOR WEAPONS VIOLATION
LEONARD JONES, JR., age 42, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced today in federal court by U. S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt to five (5) years (60 months) in prison for illegally possessing firearms in New Orleans, announced U. S. Attorney Dana J. Boente. This sentence represents an upwards variance from the recommended sentencing guidelines. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Engelhardt ordered that JONES be placed on three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.
JONES pled guilty to a Bill of Information on August 15, 2012 charging him with two counts of felon in possession of a firearm.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rick Veters of the Violent Crime Unit.
