STEVEN M. CHILDRESS CHARGED WITH RECEIPT OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 14, 2012

STEVEN M. CHILDRESS, age 46, formerly of Chalmette, Louisiana, was charged today with one count of receipt of child pornography in an indictment returned by a Federal Grand Jury, announced U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente.

According to court documents, beginning at a time unknown and continuing until in or around May 2010, the defendant, CHILDRESS, did knowingly receive images involving the use of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct that affected interstate commerce.

If he is convicted of the charge, CHILDRESS faces a maximum penalty twenty (20) years imprisonment, followed by up to a life term of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. He may also be required to register as a sex offender.

U.S. Attorney Boente reiterated that an Indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Matt Chester.
