MICHAEL J. HEBERT CHARGED WITH RECEIVING AND POSSESSING AN UNREGISTERED FIREARM
MICHAEL J. HEBERT, age 61, a resident of Houma, Louisiana, was charged today in a one-count Bill of Information with receiving and possessing an unregistered firearm, announced U. S. Attorney Dana J. Boente.
According to the bill of information, HEBERT possessed a firearm, to wit: a Stag Arms Model Stag-15, .223 caliber semi-automatic rifle, serial no. 00229 having a barrel of less than 16 inches in length, not registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.
If convicted, HEBERT faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a fine of $250,000, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service- New Orleans Field Division, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office.
U. S. Attorney Boente reiterated that the bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Loan “Mimi” Nguyen.
