Bill Mercer, United States Attorney for the District of Montana, announced today that during a federal court session in Missoula on February 3, 2009, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah C. Lynch, RAYMOND MARTINEZ, a 36-year-old resident of Bakersfield, California, pled guilty to possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine. Sentencing is set for May 7, 2009. He is currently detained.

In an Offer of Proof filed by the United States, the government stated it would have proved at trial the following:

On August 15, 2008, a search was performed on MARTINEZ and approximately 44 grams of a mixture containing methamphetamine was recovered from his person.

MARTINEZ faces possible penalties of 20 years in prison, a $1,000,000 fine and 3 years supervised release.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Paulette L. Stewart prosecuted the case for the United States.

The investigation was conducted by the Helena Missouri River Drug Task Force.
