The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Billings, on May 12, 2011, before Chief U.S. District Judge Richard F. Cebull, JASON SCOTT MILLS, a 37-year-old resident of Billings, appeared for sentencing. MILLS was sentenced to a term of:

Prison: 100 months

Special Assessment: $100

Supervised Release: 5 years

MILLS was sentenced in connection with his guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

In an Offer of Proof filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tara J. Elliott, the government stated it would have proved at trial the following:

Beginning in approximately the spring of 2009, and continuing until approximately August of 2009, MILLS, along with Aaron Minnix and Tyler Skelton distributed methamphetamine in Billings for a larger organization based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Based on information obtained through numerous sources, agents with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and Eastern Montana HIDTA conducted a controlled drug purchase of a half-ounce of methamphetamine from MILLS on June 16, 2010.

On September 30, 2010, and October 1, 2010, agents interviewed MILLS at his residence. MILLS confirmed he was introduced to Skelton by C.W. MILLS aslo stated that he obtained over 500 grams of methamphetamine from Skelton in the summer of 2009.

Minnix and Skelton pled guilty to federal charges and are awaiting sentencing.

Because there is no parole in the federal system, the "truth in sentencing" guidelines mandate that MILLS will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system, MILLS does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for "good behavior." However, this reduction will not exceed 15% of the overall sentence.

The investigation was a cooperative effort between the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Eastern Montana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force.
