Westmoreland County Man Pleads Guilty To Preparing False Tax Returns
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A resident of Seward, Pa., pleaded guilty in federal court to aiding and assisting in the preparation and presentation of false and fraudulent individual income tax returns, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
Larry E. Snow, 62, pleaded guilty to one count before Senior United States District Judge Maurice B. Cohill, Jr.
In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that an IRS examination of a sample of returns defendant prepared for 17 taxpayers during the period from April 15, 2005 to April 15, 2009, showed that Snow prepared 63 false and fraudulent income tax returns, resulting in a tax loss of $98,414.
Judge Cohill scheduled sentencing for June 20, 2012. The law provides for a sentence of three years in prison, a fine of $250,000, one year supervised release, and a $100 special assessment. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Pending sentencing, the court continued Snow on bond.
Assistant United States Attorney Leo M. Dillon is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Snow.
