National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC) Employees Pledge More
than $54,000 to Local and National Charities
Johnstown, PA - Employees of the National Drug Intelligence Center
(NDIC), a component agency of the U.S. Department of Justice, located
in Johnstown have donated $54,722 to local and national charities
as part of the federal government's annual Combined Federal Campaign
(CFC).
This year's amount exceeds last year's record high of $42,461
and is more than double of the amount contributed in previous years.
This year's donations are the largest amount ever contributed to
the charitable campaign in the agency's 11-year history.
A significant portion of this year's proceeds is once again projected
to be donated to the local United Way of the Laurel Highlands in
Johnstown. Last year, employees contributed $18,254 to the local
United Way of the Laurel Highlands out of a total of $42,461 that
was donated to all charities that year.
"NDIC employees have responded generously again this year exceeding
our goal of $40,000. In addition to pledges, we introduced a couple
of innovative ways to raise funds including dress down days and
a bake sale," said Dave Bonski, CFC Campaign Chairperson and Technical
Services Branch Chief at NDIC.
"The employees of NDIC realize that charitable giving especially
to local charities in the Johnstown area is an important part of
being a good member of the Johnstown community. I wish to thank
the employees for their generosity and I know that the local United
Way will use the money for very worthy causes in the Johnstown area,"
said Acting Director Martin Pracht.
Upon learning of NDIC's contribution, Congressman John P. Murtha
said, "It's gratifying to me that these federal employees are so
involved in the community. Their generosity helps provide programs
that improve the quality of life for thousands of Southwestern Pennsylvania
residents by developing our youth, strengthening families and supporting
our aging population."
The CFC is one of the largest annual fundraising events by the
federal government. In 2003, federal employees across the country
raised more than $249 million for charitable causes.
