The North Texas HIDTA region encompasses 15 counties in North Texas--Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Henderson, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman,  Lubbock, Navarro, Parker, Rockwall, Smith, and Tarrant, clustered primarily around the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area with the exception of Lubbock County; and 6 counties in Oklahoma--Cleveland, Comanche, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Sequoyah, and Tulsa; which include the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.

Six Interstate Highways traverse the North Texas HIDTA. Interstates 35, 40, and 44 pass through Oklahoma City. Interstates 20, 30, 35, and 45 pass through the Dallas/Fort Worth Metropolitan area, while Interstate 27 extends from Lubbock to Interstate 40 and Amarillo. Although I-10 does not traverse North Texas HIDTA counties, traffickers use this route to access I-20, which passes through Dallas/Fort Worth and extends to South Carolina

Most of the region's population is located in Dallas. The Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area has a population of approximately 5.8 million people; the Oklahoma City metropolitan area has approximately 1.2 million. In Texas, Dallas has a population of 1,000,000 or more; Arlington, Austin, and Fort Worth each have populations between 250,000 and 999,999; Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock, Waco, and Wichita Falls have populations between 100,000 and 249,999. In Oklahoma, Oklahoma City and Tulsa have populations between 250,000 and 999,999.

Other cities of interest are Lawton and Muskogee, Oklahoma; and Carrollton and Farmers Branch, Texas.
