(LES//FOUO) National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC) analysis of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data indicates that heroin, marijuana, and methamphetamine seizure amounts in year-to-date (YTD) 2010 were above average, while cocaine seizure amounts were below average. Seizure amounts for marijuana and cocaine decreased in YTD2010 compared with YTD2009, while seizure amounts for methamphetamine and heroin increased during the same period. (See Figure 1, Chart 1, Chart 2, Chart 3, and Chart 4.)
(LES//FOUO) Analysis of March 2010 seizure data reveals that all monthly drug seizure amounts were above average except for cocaine seizure amounts, which were below average. The amount of methamphetamine seized in March 2010 was the third-largest monthly seizure total since 2006. The amount of heroin seized in March 2010 was higher than any other March total since 2006. Cocaine and marijuana seizure amounts decreased in March 2010 compared with March 2009. (See text box below; see Table A.)
