1 Referrals to other agencies or other Department of Justice components. Some of these were responded to in part and referred in part.
2 Total Miscellaneous closings under such categories as "request withdrawn," "non-compliance by requester," and "unprocessed." Unprocessed for 1979 are approximately 951. This is a reduction in the number of unprocessed requests carried over from 1978 into 1979. Forty-eight of the unprocessed requests were placed on a "project list" by the Criminal Division. In these cases the requester is advised that records have been located but that because of the volume of the records, his/her request has been placed on a first in/first out project list. In addition, included here are 133 preprocessed requests reported by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Preprocessed records are those for which any necessary screening was accomplished upon receipt of the first of several requests for the same records. Many preprocessed records are subsequently made available in the FBI public reading rooms.
