September 11 compensation comments

Dear Mr. Zwick,

Please ensure that rules drawn up for distributing compensation to families of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks include all families, including the partners and non-biological children of gay and lesbian victims.

They have suffered from the attacks just as much as other families and deserve just as much compensation. At a time such as this, when these families have already had to face down evil terrorists, don't let their own government, our government, become yet another terrorist they have to face.

These families are every bit as committed to each other as any other family. Their lives and deaths were just as real. They suffered exactly the same emotional and financial devastation as any other victims.

If we do not treat the partners and non-biological children of gay and lesbian victims the same as other families, the terrorists have won! It would prevent this country from having any claim to "moral high ground" and we become just another terrorist supporting state.

This country has already suffered great loss. But please remember that additional lives are at stake in making compensation decisions.

Sincerely,
Individual Comment
