I was shocked and dismayed to learn yesterday that as a person who witnessed
the attack on the WTC from my bedroom window, had to be evacuated from my
home, and is STILL displaced from my home, I am not considered to be a victim
of the attacks according to the official definition.
My heart aches for those who lost loved ones, and I worry for those who lost
jobs and businesses in Lower Manhattan. I consider myself lucky to have
escaped "merely" traumatized, with my neighborhood in tatters.
Please don't minimize the damage done by the terrorists by limiting your
definition of who was victimized to those who lost loved ones or income.
