Compensation for Gay and Lesbian Victims' Families
I am horrified to learn of Kenneth Feinberg's statement on NBC's "Meet
the Press" (March 10) that the families of gay and lesbian victims of
September 11 will not be compensated if their state does not recognise
the relationships.
This is a cowardly act of dispossession. I deplore it. State law
aside, these people must receive full compensation from the Depart of
Justice fund. These lesbian and gay people are not lesser citizens than
the heterosexual victims.
America must recognize all of those who fell in this act of war. Not
just some. To discriminate against lesbian and gay victims of September
11 is an obscenity.
