Compensate domestic partners

Kenneth Feinberg:

My husband and I contributed generously to the September 11 Fund with the understanding that our contribution would go to the survivors of the September 11 tragedy--period. I was deeply dismayed to read, in            ' column on About.com, that you intend to discriminate against survivors based on their sexual orientation or domestic partner living arrangement--yet you sanction benefits for non-citizens, even those who are in the United States illegally.

This is an OUTRAGE. Your claim that it is acceptable for the September 11 Fund administrators to discriminate against domestic partners and same-sex couples because most of the states discriminate against these people is completely unjustified. Sexual orientation has no bearing on the pain of losing a loved one, especially in such a horrible tragedy. As fund administrator, you should be doing everything in your power to mitigate the suffering of the September 11 victims--not add to it. I am appalled and shocked at your decision, and regret that my husband and I contributed to your fund. You should be ashamed of yourself. I am very ashamed for you.

Sincerely,
