Sept. 11 Fund
To Whom it May Concern,
I am writing to express my sadness and shame as a United States citizen
that the Sept. 11 Victim Compensation Fund (the "Sept. 11 Fund") has chosen
to discriminate against gays and lesbians by refusing to provide benefits
to the domestic partners. There is no justification for this decision; all
victims of the Sept. 11 tragedy should be treated equally.
I believe that the Sept. 11 Fund should provide the same benefits to
domestic partners as it does to the spouses of heterosexual
victims. Cetainly the children of any of the gay or lesbian victims should
be treated the same as the children of heterosexuals.
I find the decision of the Sept. 11 Fund particularly disturbing given the
context of the attack. Religous fanaticism, which includes prohibitions
against homosexual relationships, is deplorable. It is truly tragic that,
in seeking to compensate the victims of religious fanatics, the Sept. 11
Fund is perpetuating the same evil that has cost so many lives and caused
such great pain and sorrow to our nation and the world.
Sincerely,
