Victim Compensation
I find it outrageous that everyone, including loved ones of illegal
aliens, are to be compensated for the horrible events of September 11,
except for the partners of gay and lesbian victims. The reasoning
behind denying any compensation for these people is seriously flawed and
needs to be re-examined. Several of the heros of 9/11 were openly gay.
Some played major roles in the events: , who helped bring
down the flight in Pennsylvania, and N.Y. Fire Dept. , who died in the line of duty when the first tower fell,
and , the of the plane that crashed into the
. It is unthinkable that these people's heroism, sacrifice and
loss is going to go unacknowledged because of the last form of bigotry
that is socially sanctioned in this country, namely homophobia. This is
not a time to placate the Christian Right by denying benefits to
Americans that truly deserve them. ALL people that lost loved ones need
to be included, whether some segments of society have a problem with
that or not. Please do the right thing, and re-examine this policy.
Sincerely,
