I am sending this email because I have heard that partners of gays and
lesbians who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 will not be compensated
as will the families of the heterosexual victims of 9/11. I firmly believe
that many who contributed to this fund did so with the belief that there
would not be such discrimination in the distribution of compensation. It is
appalling that conservative political views will undo the unprecedented unity
which the US has experienced since the terrorist attacks. I believed that the
deliberately divisive (and, quite frankly, demented) comments made by
and were dismissed by all intelligent, understanding, and rational human beings. It is extremely disheartening to learn that others share their prejudices, and will use their power to block those deserving families of the gays and lesbians who lost their lives from receiving
adequate and appropriate compensation. I hope this decision will be reconsidered, and reversed.
sincerely,
