To Whom It May Concern,
My older sibling, who is first and foremost an American, is also a gay man.
He lives with another gay man, who is also first and foremost, an American.
Should one of them, God forbid, have been injured or killed in a terrorist
attack, I would assume that it is only right and fair for the other one to
be treated the same way as a spouse of any straight, married couple. My
brothers partner will always be a member of our family, and if something
happened to my brother, then the question of whether or not to share his
assets would not even be asked. Therefore, I hope you can understand why I
am outraged to learn that you are trying to prevent families, partners, and
loved friends of terrorist victims from getting what they are entitled to
simply because they are gay.
How can you say 'One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and
Justice for All' when you aren't prepared to stand behind those words? You
are discriminating against a large part of the American population.
I ask you now to reconsider your position. Also, please think about the
hundreds of people who would have comments on your position, but who don't
have the ability or the medium to speak their mind.
Thank you for your time!
