Please Keep Focus on Actual Loss
I have nothing but deep sympathy for those who lost loved ones in the
September 11 attack. However, as a citizen and a taxpayer, I have to
question our government?s obligation and decision to select those
individuals for compensation due to that attack. To the best of my
knowledge, the U.S. Government bears no direct financial liability for
attacks on its citizens by foreign agents.
That said, I realize Congress has enacted a law calling for selective
compensation of attack victims and their families.
I would encourage you to follow closely the guidelines set forth by Congress
to provide an equitable distribution of funds based to the extent practical
on actual loss and not be swayed by those who wish to enrich themselves at
taxpayer expense through claims of ?emotional distress.?
Thank you,
