To Whom It May Concern:
My husband is one of the 343 fireman still missing at the wtc. His loss has
been devastating to me and our newborn daughter.
I disagree with many aspects of the victims compensation program.
There should be no clause that deducts income from collateral sources such
as my husbands pension and life insurance. These are never deducted in
lawsuits so why should they be deducted with the acceptance of this plan with
the conditions thatyou will not sue.
I also disagree that there should be a cap on pain and suffering of 250,000.
This number is based on an old formula and should be updated to reflect
today's standards. There is no amount of money that could ease my suffering
or the pain I have in knowing our daughter will never be with her father. I
can't work . I am alone without family and will be the only caretaker for my
daughter . She needs to be taken care of financially as her father was taken
away from us and was our sole provider.
Economists should be consulted to come up with a new formula amount for pain
and suffering.
Lastly, many firemen and other victims had domestic partners. Some whom I
know were weeks away from getting married. They should not be left out as
well as parents.
