Anchorage, Alaska – Acting United States Attorney Kevin Feldis announced that a Tuluksak man was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage for one count of theft of public money.
On December 15, 2010, United States Magistrate Judge John D. Roberts sentenced Rickey Andrew, 24, of Tuluksak, Alaska, to a term of three years probation. Andrew pled guilty in September 2010, to the one-count information.
According to court documents presented by Assistant United States Attorney Yvonne Lamoureux, who prosecuted the case, on January 11, 2008, Andrew broke into the Tuluksak Contract Postal Unit, stole 48 U.S. Postal Money Orders, and attempted to cash one of the stolen money orders in the amount of $905.00, at a store in Bethel, Alaska. The Alaska State Troopers recovered the other stolen money orders before they were negotiated.
Magistrate Judge Roberts sentenced Andrew to three years of probation with special conditions that Andrew submit to warrantless searches and participate in a GED program.
The United States Postal Inspection Service and the Alaska State Troopers conducted the investigation leading to the conviction in this case.
