mexican national sentenced to 37 months in federal prison for illegal reentry into the u.S. after deportation
Anchorage, Alaska – Acting United States Attorney Kevin Feldis announced that Eduardo Martinez-Sanchez was sentenced to 37 months in prison for his conviction of reentry after deportation subsequent to conviction for an aggravated felony.
On December 7, 2010, Martinez-Sanchez was sentenced by United States District Judge John W. Sedwick in federal court in Juneau, Alaska.
According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Jack S. Schmidt, Martinez-Sanchez, a resident of Mexico, illegally reentered the United States in 2008, and was subsequently arrested in Juneau, Alaska on January 26, 2010. Martinez-Sanchez was previously convicted of several felony drug crimes in 2003, and previously convicted of illegally reentering the United States in District of Utah in 2003.
Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Sedwick stated that deterrence of the defendant and others, and to promote respect for the law were the underlying reasons for imposing the sentence.
Mr. Feldis commended Homeland Security Investigations for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Martinez-Sanchez.
