Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen Loeffler announced today, June 18, 2010, that Walter Jere Stockheim, of Anchorage, Alaska, pled guilty in federal court in Anchorage and was sentenced to five years of probation for threatening Social Security Administration employees.

Stockheim, 46, was sentenced by Chief United States District Court Judge Ralph R. Beistline.

According to Assistant United States Attorney Tom Bradley, who prosecuted the case, Stockheim sent a series of emails to an individual in early April 2010, threatening to kill local policemen if his medical benefits were not paid by Social Security. In mid-April, he telephoned the Social Security office and threatened to bring weapons to his next hearing. When uniformed officers from the Federal Protective Service and the Anchorage Police Department contacted Stockheim at his home, he made further threats and became violent with officers.

Judge Beistline ordered Stockheim to take medication as prescribed, and continue mental health treatment as directed. Stockheim was also ordered not to possess any firearms or other dangerous weapons. If found in violation of his probation, Stockheim could be sentenced to serve up to one year in federal prison.

The Federal Protective Service, Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General, and the Anchorage Police Department conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Stockheim.
