Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced that today, June 17, 2010, a federal grand jury in Anchorage indicted Peter Roger Taylor, of Anchorage, Alaska, with six counts of possessing and distributing child pornography.

The six-count indictment names Taylor, age 66, as the sole defendant.

The indictment alleges that Taylor knowingly distributed sexually explicit images of minors to another individual on or about July 15, 2007. The indictment also alleges that Taylor knowingly possessed child pornography on various computers, external hard drives, and a thumb drive.

According to Assistant United States Attorney Kyle G. French, who is prosecuting the case, the maximum sentence for possession of child pornography is not more than ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The charge of distributing child pornography carries a minimum sentence of 5 years imprisonment and a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, plus a $250,000 fine.

The case was investigated by the Anchorage Police Department.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
