Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced that on June 28, 2010, Sedric O. Williams, of Anchorage, Alaska, was sentenced to serve 156 months in federal prison for one count of drug-trafficking conspiracy and one count of attempting to possess crack cocaine, heroin and MDMA, or ecstacy, with the intent to distribute.

Williams, age 31, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Timothy M. Burgess.

According to Assistant United States Attorney Craig M. Warner, who prosecuted the case, the evidence presented at trial established that Williams was apprehended after being identified by law enforcement as one of the intended recipients of a Federal Express parcel containing heroin, ecstacy, and more than five grams of crack cocaine. The package was intercepted by agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force, and the narcotics were replaced with fake narcotics before delivery. Evidence at the scene of the delivery indicated that Williams took possession of plastic bags that had contained the drugs in the minutes following the package's arrival.

At the sentencing hearing, Mr. Warner argued that Williams was one of the central players in the drug conspiracy, and noted that Williams’ series of earlier criminal convictions had failed to deter him from trafficking in narcotics. Judge Burgess cited the need to protect the public from the defendant as a significant factor in the sentence.

The DEA Task Force, which includes members deputized from the Anchorage Police Department and the Alaska State Troopers, conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Williams.
