
sacramento woman sentenced for drug conspiracy
Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced that a Sacramento woman was sentenced in federal court in Juneau to five years of probation,12 months community confinement, and 12 months of home detention for her conviction for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute oxycodone.
On August 4, 2011, Avis Ree Na Bowdry, 20, a resident of Sacramento, California, was sentenced by United States District Judge Timothy M. Burgess.
According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Jack S. Schmidt, Bowdry traveled to Alaska from California on December 8 , 2010, with her co-conspirator, Lorenzo Williams, for the purpose of distributing oxycodone in Juneau, Alaska. On January 25, 2011, Bowdry accepted a Fed Ex package sent from Sacramento, California containing 280 oxycodone pills addressed to her. The Juneau Police Department Drug Metro Unit had previously intercepted the package and made a controlled delivery to Bowdry. Bowdry and Williams were subsequently arrested.
Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Burgess stated that the offense was extremely serious conduct that has significant impact on the community. Judge Burgess also indicated that the sentence he imposed adequately addressed deterrence of the defendant and protection of the public because of the defendant’s youthful age and involvement in an abusive relationship with her co-conspirator.
Ms. Loeffler commended the DEA D-22 High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force located in Seattle, Washington and the Juneau Police Department Drug Metro Unit for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Bowdry.
