Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced today the Environmental Crimes Task Force has concluded their third-annual Environmental Enforcement Seminar at the National Park Service Regional Office in Anchorage.
The conference was attended by 100 employees from more than 15 state and federal agencies who play a role in protecting our air, water, land, public health, fisheries and wildlife. The focus of the group is better communications and cooperation among agencies that have similar or overlapping responsibilities to provide environmental protection within the State of Alaska.
This week’s meeting focused on fish and wildlife research in Alaska, prevention, response and enforcement of potentially criminal conduct at sea, domestic threats, theft of archeological and paleontological resources and electronic media in law enforcement. Presentations covered investigations, technical support and prosecution of resource crimes.
“Alaska is wild and expansive, rich in wildlife and pristine wilderness, but our environment is also fragile. Careful stewardship and responsible use of our lands and resources are critical, as is the steadfast and just enforcement of our environmental laws. The many individuals from state and federal agencies throughout the state who came together in our third annual environmental enforcement conference are dedicated to upholding those laws and regulations that protect the lands, waters, fisheries and wildlife of for the people of Alaska and for future generations,” said Kevin Feldis, Criminal Chief United States Attorney’s Office for Alaska.
