Montgomery, Alabama - Robert A. Davenport, age 34, of Georgiana, Alabama, was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison on federal firearms charges, U.S. Attorney Leura G. Canary announced today.

Davenport previously pled guilty to two federal firearms charges which occurred in December 2009. Specifically, Davenport, a convicted felon, pleaded guilty to possessing a Smith & Wesson, .38 caliber revolver on December 22, 2009, and a Norinco SKS rifle on December 26, 2009. Davenport’s possession of these firearms were in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g). United States District Judge Myron H. Thompson sentenced Davenport to a term of imprisonment of 41 months to be followed by 3 years supervised release.

The case was investigated and prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, which seeks to prevent violent crime through enforcement of federal firearms laws, such as the law prohibiting convicted felons from possessing firearms. The program is known as Alabama ICE in the Middle District of Alabama.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Butler County Sheriff’s Department and the Covington County Sheriff’s Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jerusha T. Adams.
