Mexican National Sentenced to 14 Months in Federal Prison for Illegally Re-Entering the United States
Montgomery, Alabama - Rosendo Moreno-Rodriguez, a/k/a Federico Moreno Sanchez, age 39, a native and citizen of Mexico, has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison for unlawfully re-entering the United States after he had previously been deported, U.S. Attorney Leura G. Canary announced today.
On April 12, 2010, Moreno-Rodriguez was found in Montgomery County, Alabama, by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) agents, following release from the Bullock County Detention Facility, where Moreno-Rodriguez had served a term of imprisonment for having twice been convicted of Possession of a Controlled Substance. At that time, Moreno-Rodriguez lacked permission to re-enter the United States. Moreno-Rodriguez previously had been deported to Mexico on two occasions: July 1, 1997, and June 8, 2007.
Indicted in April 2010 by a federal grand jury in Montgomery for illegally re-entering the United States, Moreno-Rodriguez pleaded guilty on May 28, 2010. Moreno-Rodriguez faced up to ten years imprisonment, based on his extensive criminal record, including seven prior driving under the influence convictions, two prior domestic violence convictions, and two prior felony drug possession convictions as well as numerous arrests for similar offenses. United States District Judge Myron H. Thompson sentenced Moreno-Rodriguez on August 12, 2010, to 14- months imprisonment. Following Moreno-Rodriguez’s release from imprisonment, he will face administrative removal proceedings with the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
