Montgomery, Alabama - Jesus Guillen-Campos, age 36, a native and citizen of Mexico, has been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for unlawfully re-entering the United States after he had previously been deported, U.S. Attorney Leura G. Canary announced today.

In January 2010, agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) determined that Guillen-Campos, who was being held in the Chilton County Jail, had illegally re-entered the United States. Guillen-Campos was deported to Mexico on September 28, 2006. Prior to his deportation, Guillen-Campos had been convicted in the General Sessions Court of Beaufort County, South Carolina, of third degree criminal domestic violence. At the time he re-entered the country, Guillen-Campos lacked permission to re-enter the United States.

Indicted in February 2010 by a federal grand jury in Montgomery for illegally re-entering the United States, Guillen-Campos pled guilty on May 14, 2010. United States District Judge W. Harold Albritton sentenced Guillen-Campos on August 19, 2010, to 21-months imprisonment as well as three years of supervised release. Following Guillen-Campos’ release from prison, he will face administrative removal proceedings with the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ERO. Assistant United States Attorney W. Brent Woodall prosecuted the case.
