Mexican National Sentenced for Illegally Re-Entering
the United States
Montgomery, Alabama - Saul Rostro-Zamarippa, age 30, a native and citizen of Mexico, has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for unlawfully re-entering the United States after he had previously been deported, U.S. Attorney Leura G. Canary announced today.
On December 14, 2009, Rostro-Zamarippa was found in Houston County, Alabama, by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (EOR) agents who were investigating Rostro-Zamarippa. At that time, Rostro-Zamarippa lacked permission to re-enter the United States. Rostro-Zamarippa previously had been deported to Mexico on August 5, 2003, after serving a state prison sentence imposed in November 2002 by the Circuit Court of Fairfax County, Virginia, for Attempted Unlawful Wounding.
Indicted in January 2010 by a federal grand jury in Montgomery for illegally re-entering the United States, Rostro-Zamarippa pleaded guilty on May 18, 2010. United States District Judge Keith W. Watkins sentenced Rostro-Zamarippa on September 24, 2010, to 15-months imprisonment and three years of supervised release. Following Rostro-Zamarippa’s release from imprisonment, he will face administrative removal proceedings with the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
