Florida Man Sent Back to Prison for Threatening Federal Agent
Montgomery, Alabama - Cedrick Taylor, 24, of Sarasota, Florida, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Mark E. Fuller to two and a half years in federal prison for mailing a threatening letter to a Montgomery-based United States Postal Inspector, U.S. Attorney Leura G. Canary announced today. Taylor previously pled guilty to the one-count felony Indictment on November 15, 2010, pursuant to a written plea agreement that specified a 30-month sentence.
Taylor had been serving out a four-year sentence in Florida state prison for armed robbery when he mailed the threatening letter, which promised acts of violence on the Postal Inspector unless he changed his testimony in another case.
The victim – identified in court documents only by his initials – submitted a statement to the court in which he wrote: “I am just doing my job and it is not personal. It concerns me greatly for all law enforcement officers that the offenders make it personal. It is especially serious because the offenders are not only making it a personal issue with the officer, but they are threatening the safety of the officer’s family. I am glad to see the court taking appropriate action in these matters for the sake of all law enforcement officers.”
As part of his sentence, Taylor will spend three years on supervised release.
This case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nathan D. Stump.
