Former Bullock County Correctional Facility Mail Clerk Pleads Guilty to Obstructing Mail
Montgomery, Alabama - LeShandra Johnson, age 31, of Union Springs, Alabama, pled guilty in federal district court to obstructing the passage of the mail, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1701, United States Attorney Leura G. Canary announced today.
On Monday, May 9, 2011, Johnson entered her plea in federal district court before Chief United States Magistrate Judge Susan Russ Walker. At the change of plea hearing, Johnson admitted that, in December 2008, while she was the mail clerk for the Bullock County Correctional Facility, she knowingly and willfully obstructed the passage of the mail by placing undelivered mail in the trash which prevented its delivery to the recipients.
Johnson’s sentencing hearing has not yet been set. At sentencing, Johnson faces a maximum sentence of imprisonment of six months, a maximum fine of $5,000, and a term of supervised release of no more than one year.
This case was investigated jointly by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Alabama Department of Corrections. Assistant United States Attorney Jerusha T. Adams prosecuted the case.
