Montgomery, Alabama - Natasha Knight, a resident of Lee County, Alabama, was sentenced to federal prison for a federal felony conviction for failing to register as a sex offender, United States Attorney George L. Beck, Jr., announced today.

A federal grand jury indicted Knight in August, 2011, for one count of failing to register as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act. Knight was convicted of Felony Carnal Knowledge of a Juvenile in Louisiana in 2009. Due to this conviction, Knight was sentenced to a term of five years probation. During Knight’s guilty plea hearing, Knight admitted that she knew that, as a convicted sex offender, she was required to register and that if she moved to another state she must register in that state no later than three business days after she established residence or employment in the new state. Knight further admitted that she had relocated to Phenix City, Alabama, in April 2011, but never registered as a sex offender in the State of Alabama.

Chief United States District Judge W. Keith Watkins sentenced Knight to a term of imprisonment of fifteen (15) months to be followed by five (5) years of supervised release. Knight remains in the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending placement by the Bureau of Prisons.

This case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service. Assistant United States Attorney Jerusha T. Adams prosecuted the case.
