Former Postal Employee Indicted
Montgomery, Alabama - United States Postal employee Arthur Darby, Jr. was indicted by a federal Grand Jury for the attempted murder of two postal employees, the use of a firearm in connection to a crime of violence, and delay of the United States mail, announced United States Attorney George L. Beck, Jr.
On December 1, 2011, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Darby, a part-time mail handler, went to work at the Main Post Office located at 6701 Winton Blount Boulevard in Montgomery, Alabama. After entering the post office, he began shooting at two postal employees. Law enforcement was immediately called and caught Darby. Darby was in the State of Alabama custody until his federal arrest.
An indictment merely alleges that crimes have been committed, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. If convicted, Darby faces a possible sentence of life imprisonment.
This case is being investigated by the United States Postal Inspectors and the Montgomery Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Susan Redmond.
