FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 16, 2012

Montgomery, Alabama - On March 16, 2012, Annetta Sheree Wilson-Hughes, a former employee of the United States Social Security Administration in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, pled guilty to embezzling funds of the Social Security Administration, announced United States Attorney George L. Beck, Jr.

Between November 2010 and January 2011, during the course of her employment with the Social Security Administration, Wilson-Hughes took over $20,000 in Social Security funds and put them in her personal bank accounts. In order to steal the money from Social Security, Wilson-Hughes used her access to the Social Security Administration database to take the payments intended for people who were rightfully receiving social security benefits.

Wilson-Hughes’ sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 29, 2012, before U.S. District Judge Myron H. Thompson. Wilson-Hughes faces a possible sentence of up to 10 years in jail.

The investigation of this case was conducted by the Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jared Morris.
